Antiguan basketballAntigua will host CBC U16 Championships

 Antigua is set to host the Caribbean Basketball Confederation U16 Championship for the first time in history. The sixth edition of the competition will be held at the JSC Sports Complex from August 12 through August 18. Five mens teams and three womens squads are to take part in the tourney. The event was originally slated to take place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. However the country pulled out because of the financial woes.

 The Antigua and Barbuda Amateur Basketball Association enjoys the playoffs championship in Division One. The Geotech Golden Eagles were on brink of elimination but stayed alive in the series against the Freetown Travellers. The Golden Eagles bumped the Travellers 83:68 to draw things level in the best-of-three series. Mario Davis notched 27 points and 14 boards to lead the Golden Eagles. Kareem Bailey contributed 19 points and Tish Smith had 14 points and 11 boards in a win.

 Diamond Stars and Lion Feast Kings advanced to the Antigua and Barbuda Amateur Basketball Association Second Division playoff finals. Both teams completed a 2-0 sweeps in their respective semifinal clashes to claim the spot in the title series. The Diamond Stars overcame Refelxions 57:52 to reach the championship games. N'Degwa Malone nailed 25 points to lead the charge. Adessa Harris added 13 points for the winners. John Samuels answered with 13 points and 16 boards for Reflexions.

 The Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association welcomed the start of the playoffs. The Diamond Stars and Savoy Roots opened their first round series with victories. The Diamond Stars overcame Ovals 69:60 to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Adissa Harris knocked down 18 points to pace the winners. Sylvester Carbon provided 16 points for the Stars. Winston Roberts answered with 16 points for the losing side. Savoy Roots thumped Reflexions 57:38 for the lead in the series.

 The Business Basketball League enjoyed a couple of fixtures during the week in Antigua. The Antigua Port Authority overwhelmed the Board of Education 83:64. Jules Bowen netted 25 points for the Port Authority at the YMCA Sports Complex. David Barton and Darius Richards provided 21 points apiece for the winners. Alfred Lee (-G) responded with 20 points for the Board of Education.

 Antigua - Barbados 77:73 Antiguan team secured the fifth spot in the final ladder of the CBC championship. They defeated Barbados in the clash for the 5th place. Barbadian team looked more confident at the start of the game and established an early 25:15 lead. However Antigua responded with a massive 20:8 blow to surge ahead at halftime.

 Dominican Republic - Antigua 88:64 Dominican Republic secured the top spot in Group A ladder as they rolled past Antigua yesterday. Dominican Republic were dominant right from the start and piled up a 46:27 lead at halftime. Dominican Republic though never stopped and completed the task in the second half posting another comprehensive victory.

 Guyana - Antigua 78:68 Guyana secured their first victory in the CBC championship in Puerto Rico. They edged Antigua 78:68 in Day 4 action. Forward Gordon Klaiber (206-F-83, college: Fairleigh Dickinson) chipped in 34 poitns for Guyana and ensured their 1-1 record. Guyana drove to a 39:33 advantage at halftime.
