Antigua is set to host the Caribbean Basketball Confederation U16 Championship for the first time in history. The sixth edition of the competition will be held at the JSC Sports Complex from August 12 through August 18. Five mens teams and three womens squads are to take part in the tourney. The event was originally slated to take place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. However the country pulled out because of the financial woes.

Due to the changes the staring date was shifted to August 12 instead of August 6 previously stated. The Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association confirmed their full readiness to welcome the tournament and provide the best possible conditions for the participants.

The Antigua and Barbuda Amateur Basketball Association enjoys the playoffs championship in Division One. The Geotech Golden Eagles were on brink of elimination but stayed alive in the series against the Freetown Travellers. The Golden Eagles bumped the Travellers 83:68 to draw things level in the best-of-three series. Mario Davis notched 27 points and 14 boards to lead the Golden Eagles. Kareem Bailey contributed 19 points and Tish Smith had 14 points and 11 boards in a win.

Neville Martin (203-C-84) secured 18 points in a loss. Scrubbo West Five also squared things up in the series against the defending champions Big Banana Express. The West Five pulled away with a 67:61 win over the Express behind 22 points from Junior Destin. However the topscorer was ejected late in the game and would automatically miss the decisive third game. Marvin Barthley had 16 points for the winners. Lindsay McDonald bruised the West Five with 23 points. Oslyn Gregory (-F-70) registered 17 points and 11 boards in a loss. One of the main title favorites Defense Force Warriors wrapped their campaign against Samantha Bolans Ravens beating them 85:64. The win marked a 2-0 sweep of the Ravens. Mario Davis came up with 26 points for the winning side. Marlon Charles (186-G-76) dropped 22 points for the Warriors. Tindale Telemaque replied with 18 points for the Ravens. The Baldwin Braves stayed in the race after a dramatic 81:80 win over Baba Trucking JSC Hawks. Damien Floyd knocked down 34 points to propel the Braves to the so much needed success. Michael Gore canned 14 points in a win. Jason London (176-G-81) drained 23 points for the Hawks.

Diamond Stars and Lion Feast Kings advanced to the Antigua and Barbuda Amateur Basketball Association Second Division playoff finals. Both teams completed a 2-0 sweeps in their respective semifinal clashes to claim the spot in the title series. The Diamond Stars overcame Refelxions 57:52 to reach the championship games. N'Degwa Malone nailed 25 points to lead the charge. Adessa Harris added 13 points for the winners. John Samuels answered with 13 points and 16 boards for Reflexions.

Bernard Andrew had 12 points in defeat. The Lion Feast Kings snatched a narrow 74:71 win over Fire Links. The Kings managed to withstand a fierce final seconds as the Links tried hard to save the day but Torian Matthew and Roger Miller ensured the winning outcome for the Kings. Torian Matthew led the winners with 19 points and 11 boards. Ronnie James and Roger Miller contributed 15 points apiece for the victors. The Fire Links answered with game-high 25 points from Olivierre Morris. Errol Quallis notched 12 points, 13 boards and 8 steals in a losing case. The championship series are due to tip off on Monday. Meanwhile the First Division action continued with Medi Care Pharmacy Kings driving to a hard 53:51 win over the defending champions Big Banana Express. Marvin Franklyn came up with 15 points, 9 boards and 9 assists to ensure the winning result for the Kings. The Express were paced by 14 points from Lindsay McDonald.
