Defending champions, F&G Trading Cuties Ovals Ojays drew first blood in the best of five division one playoff finals at JSC on Sunday night defeating L J Northside Stingerz, 71-61. With a packed crowd of supporters for both teams, the Ovals men flaunting a very colorful uniform resembling that of the Harlem Globetrotters did away with the rookie team even with the absence of key player Derricion Anthony.Kareem 'Macky' Edwards was the leading scorer with 18 points. Veteran 'Buju' Marlon Charles (186-G-76) had 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals, Captain Bryan 'Hollywood' Matthew had 12 points and 9 rebounds and Eric 'Lebron' Joseph chipped in with 12 points and 5 rebounds for the victors. Stingerz' Mario Davis (198-F/G-80, college: Missouri Western) returned from injury with a 16 point effort with support from his brother Mahijah Davis (195-G-77, college: Cent.Oklahoma) scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Chaz Samuel assisted with 13 points and 6 steals and Coy Quinland contributed 11 points and 8 rebounds in the losing effort.Ottos Sweet BBBs also drew first blood defeating the division 2 league champions Flyers 2, 61-58. The best of five division 2 playoff finals saw Sweet BBBs outplaying the young Flyers team resulting in much deserved win for the Ottos men. Damiano Simonazzi (184-G-92) led the charge with 16 points for Sweet BBBs. Omarie Chambers had 12 points with Justin Francis contributing 9 points and Akeem James grabbing 15 rebounds.Tavarus Benta had 13 points and 5 rebounds for the Orange (Flyers) men. He was assisted by Selassie Brathwaite with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals and Joel London with 11 points and 6 rebounds in a losing effort.Game 2 of both finals will be on Thursday night at JSC starting at 6:30pm.

Cutie Ovals Ojays - Flyers 77:83 Flyers captured Division I Playoff title. They swept the championship series versus Cutie Ovals Ojays. The decisive third victory came on the road on Saturday. Torey Fassett (198-F) came up with 21 points and 8 rebounds to lead the champions. Flyers posted a 42:35 halftime lead. Ovals narrowed the gap in the third period. Flyers recorded the second straight victory in Division I Finals. They held off Cutie Ovals Ojays 78:70 to take 2-0 lead in the series. Sharife Sargeant posted 22 points and 9 rebounds to lead the hosts. Flyers got to a confident start. They grabbed a 15:13 lead after the opening frame. The hosts stretched the lead at 6-point mark at the interval 35:29. Flyers boosted the gap at 10-point mark heading into the fourth term.
