Argentina advanced to the Semifinals of U18 FIBA Americas championship in Gurabo. They smashed Dominican Republic 51-26 on Friday ending the Preliminary stage with 2-1 record. That was enough for the second place in this pool. It is very important to mention that Argentina already booked a ticket for the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship. At the other side, Dominican Republic ended this stage winless (0-3) and will continue in classification games from 5th-8th place. Argentina took control on its rival from the beginning and never looked back. Quarters: 19-5, 9-9, 10-4, 13-8. Victoria Llorente (184-F/C-96) stepped up for Argentina with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Julieta Armesto (179-F-94) helped with 12 pts. Agustina Jourthevil (175-F-94) followed them with 10 points. In the loosing squad, Yamel Abreu (95) scored 11 points and Cheisy Hernandez (94) stopped to 7. Argentina will meet Brazil today in the Semis. Dominican Republic will play against Puerto Rico.

#1. This week's number one is former international forward Alejandra Chesta (187-82, agency: Players Group, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian A2 (12th division). Chesta could not help Alghero (13-13) in their last game on Saturday. Despite her good performance the seventh-placed Alghero was edged 58-55 at home by the lower-ranked San Salvatore (#11) in the North group.
Chesta recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting the same number of rebounds. She also added and 3 steals.
The Regular Season already ended.
It's Chesta's first season with the team.
Chesta is ranked ninth on the list of the top scorers in the league.
She has very reliable stats this season: 15.0ppg, 7.0rpg, 2.3spg, 2FGP: 42.5%, 3FGP: 31.8% and FT: 89.6%.

She was MVP of the game. Thomas recorded 29 points (!!!), 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals; quite an impressive performance considering it's only her third season in pro basketball. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Gimle BBK Bergen (17-3) is placed second in the Kvinneligaen.
It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row.
Thomas is the league's top scorer and also on the list of best passers (fourth place).
She has individually a very good season with high stats. Thomas averages: 22.0ppg, 5.9rpg, 3.1apg and 4.0spg.
She is a naturalized American.
