We bring you last week's top performances from Argentinians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Luis Scola

   #1. This week's number one is an international power forward Luis Scola (206-80, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Phoenix Suns (1-2) in their last game. Despite Scola's very good performance the Phoenix Suns were crushed 115-94 on the road by the Orlando Magic. He was the top scorer with 24 points. Scola also added 7 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 32 minutes on the court. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Scola's first year with the team. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Scola averages: 17.3ppg, 9.0rpg, 2.0apg, 1.3bpg, 1.7spg, 2FGP: 52.4% and FT: 83.3% in the three games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Argentinian and Spanish. Scola is currently a member of the Argentinian senior national team.

Carlos Delfino

   #2. Second place goes to an international small forward Carlos Delfino (200-82, currently plays in NBA). He was the major contributor in a Houston Rockets' victory against the Detroit Pistons (0-3) 105-96 in the NBA last Wednesday. Delfino scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. The Houston Rockets have 2-1 record this season. But the season just started, so everything may happen. It's Delfino's first year with the team. He has relatively good stats this season: 8.0ppg, 4.3rpg, 1.3spg, 3FGP: 37.5%. Delfino is another player who holds two passports: Argentinian and Italian. He is in the roster of the Argentinian senior national team.

   #3. The Argentinian player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced international small forward Andres Nocioni (199-79, currently plays in Euroleague), who plays in Spain. Nocioni was not able to help Caja Laboral (1-3) in their last game. Despite his good performance the fifth-placed Caja Laboral lost 64-76 at home to the second-ranked Anadolu Efes in the group C of Euroleague. Nocioni was the second best scorer with 11 points. He also added 4 rebounds and 2 blocks in 29 minutes. It's Nocioni's first season with the team. This year Nocioni has relatively solid stats: 11.8ppg, 2.8rpg, 2FGP: 46.2% and FT: 89.5% in the four games. He has both Italian and Argentinian nationalities. Ex-Penarol Mar del Plata player is also a member of the Argentinian senior national team.

   #4. Forward Leonardo Mainoldi (203-85, currently plays in Spain) led Baloncesto Fuenlabrada to a victory against the closely-ranked Lagun Aro GBC (1-5) 86-75 in the Spanish ACB in Sunday night's game. Mainoldi recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 15 rebounds. He also added 4 assists. Mad-Croc Fuenlabrada (1-5) is placed 14th in the ACB. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Mainoldi is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fifth year in Baloncesto Fuenlabrada's roster. Mainoldi is currently first on the list of best rebounders. He has very reliable stats this season: 10.3ppg, 9.2rpg and 1.2apg. Similarly like Nocioni and Delfino above Mainoldi also holds two passports: Argentinian and Italian. He is also Argentinian national team player.

International shooting guard Emanuel Ginobili (198-77, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in NBA) contributed to a San Antonio Spurs' victory against the Utah Jazz (1-2) 110-100 in the NBA on Saturday night. Ginobili scored 8 points. It was his first game for San Antonio Spurs this season. His team have 3-0 record this season. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. Ginobili has been at the team for eleven years. Similarly like three previous players above, he has Argentinian and Italian nationalities. Ginobili plays currently for the Argentinian national team.

Guard Juan Fernandez (193-90, college: Temple, currently plays in Italy) helped C.de Latte BRE edge the 12th-ranked Prima Veroli (2-3) 82-80 in the Italian Lega2 (second division) on Sunday night. Fernandez scored 13 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 32 minutes. Centrale del Latte Brescia (3-2) is placed fourth in the Lega2. This year Fernandez's overall stats are: 7.4ppg, 2.6rpg, 3.0apg and 1.6spg in the five games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Argentinian National Team roster.

   #7. International point guard Pablo Prigioni (190-77, currently plays in NBA) managed to help New York Knicks in a victory against the Philadelphia 76ers (1-1) 100-84 in the NBA last Sunday. Prigioni scored only 2 points and added 4 passes in 15 minutes. The New York Knicks have 2-0 record this season. This year Prigioni's total stats are: 1.0ppg and 3.5apg in the two games. He is also Argentinian national team player.

Point guard Nicolas Richotti (181-86, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for the league outsider CB Canarias (0-6) in their game against Regal FC Barcelona (3-3) in the Spanish ACB. Richotti scored 6 points, made 4 passes and 3 steals in 22 minutes. The bottom-ranked CB Canarias was crushed 100-75 in Barcelona by the much higher-ranked (#10) Regal FC. So far CB Canarias lost all six games in the Regular Season. Richotti has averaged so far 8.0ppg, 2.0rpg and 2.8apg in the six games. He plays currently for the Argentinian national team.

Former U17 international center Matias Bortolin (205-93, also represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Austria) couldn't help the league outsider Arkadia Lions (0-5) in their game against Furstenfeld Panthers (1-4) in the Austrian A Bundesliga, despite his good performance in Sunday night's game. Bortolin scored 12 points, had 6 boards, handed out 5 passes and blocked 2 shots in 39 minutes. But the bottom-ranked Arkadia Lions lost 85-97 in Furstenfeld to the higher-ranked (#9) Panthers. So far Arkadia Lions lost all five games in the Regular Season. Bortolin is currently second on the list of best blockers with 1.4bpg. He also averaged so far 11.6ppg, 7.0rpg, 4.0apg and 1.6spg in the five games. Bortolin used to play for the Argentinian U17 national team two years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Argentinian passport but never been selected to any of Argentinian national teams:

   #1. Mario Jose Ghersetti (201-F-81, currently plays in Italy) led Tezenis VE to a victory over the league outsider Upea CdO (0-5) 79-69 in the Italian Lega2 (second division) last Sunday. Ghersetti was MVP of the game. He scored 21 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 25 minutes. Tezenis Verona (3-2) is placed fifth in the Lega2. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. This year Ghersetti's overall stats are: 10.0ppg, 5.0rpg, 1.8apg and 1.6spg in the five games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Argentinian and Italian.

   #2. Ariel Filloy (189-PG-87, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Italy) was the main contributor in an AcegasAps TR's victory against the closely-ranked Givova Scafati (3-2) crushing them 81-61 in the Italian Lega2 (second division) in Sunday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Filloy recorded 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 29 minutes. Acegas Aps Trieste (3-2) is placed sixth in the Lega2. Filloy has reliable stats this year: 12.8ppg, 3.4rpg and 3.0apg in the five games. He is another player who holds two passports: Argentinian and Italian. Despite Filloy's Argentinian nationality, he previously played for the Italian U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Argentinian team.

   #3. Carlos Sebastian Vico (190-G-86, agency: Players Group, currently plays in Italy) was the major contributor in Matera's victory against the 13th-ranked Recanati (3-4) 74-59 in the Italian Nazionale A (third division) last Thursday. Vico recorded 20 points, 4 assists and 5 steals. Bawer Matera (6-2) is placed second in the Nazionale A. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Vico has reliable stats this season: 11.9ppg, 4.6rpg, 3.0apg and 3.1spg. Similarly like Filloy and Ghersetti above he has both Argentinian and Italian nationalities.

   #4. Demian Filloy (198-F-82, also represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Italy) contributed to a Trenkwalder RE's victory against the closely-ranked Scavolini Pesaro (2-4) 71-59 in the Italian SerieA in Sunday night's game. Filloy scored 7 points and had 3 steals. Trenkwalder Reggio Emilia (3-3) is placed seventh in the SerieA. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Filloy's total stats this season are: 4.3ppg, 3.0rpg and 2.0spg. Similarly like three previous players above, he also holds two passports: Argentinian and Italian.

   #5. Manuel Carrizo (198-F/G-80, another player represented by Players Group, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian Lega2 (second division) could not help FCM Ferentino (1-4) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Carrizo's very good performance FCM Ferentino was defeated 97-83 on the road by the much higher-ranked Sigma Barcellona (#7). He scored 15 points. This season Carrizo averages only 5.2ppg. He has Argentinian and Italian nationalities.

   #6. Bernardo Musso (193-G-86, currently plays in Italy) was not able to help LeGamberi Foods Forlì in their game against Givova Scafati in the Italian Lega2 (second division). Musso scored 6 points and added 3 assists. His team was defeated 84-76. Musso has averaged so far 7.7ppg, 3.7rpg and 2.0apg. Similarly like all previous players above, he holds both Argentinian and Italian passports.

   #7. Andres Forray (187-PG-86, currently plays in Italy) helped Pall.Trento win their game against the 13th-ranked Aget Service IM 84-73 in the Italian Lega2 (second division) on Sunday night. Forray scored 8 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, passed 3 assists and added 2 blocks in 26 minutes. Forray has averaged so far 5.5ppg, 3.0rpg, 2.0apg and 1.8spg in the four games. He has Argentinian and Italian nationalities.

   #8. Augustin Fabi (199-G/F-91, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian Nazionale A (third division) was not able to secure a victory for Liomatic Viola Reggio Calabria (1-7) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Fabi's very good performance Liomatic Viola Reggio Calabria was defeated 69-58 in Ozzano Emilia by the much higher-ranked Bologna (#6). He was the second best scorer with 15 points. Fabi has reliable stats this season: 12.3ppg, 2.9rpg, 1.6apg and 1.9spg. Similarly like all previous players above, he has dual citizenship: Argentinian and Italian.

   #9. Martin Calvo (198-F-88, currently plays in United Kingdom), who plays in the British BBL couldn't help the league outsider Liverpool Mersey Tigers (0-7) in their last game. Despite Calvo's very good performance the bottom-ranked Liverpool Mersey Tigers lost 73-79 in Chester to the higher-ranked (#10) Cheshire Jets. He was the second best scorer with 16 points. Calvo also added 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 32 minutes. It was his first game for Liverpool Mersey Tigers this season. Calvo holds both Argentinian and Spanish passports.

   #10. Juan Ignacio Jasen (196-F-85, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help the league outsider UCAM Murcia in their game against FIATC Joventut in the Spanish ACB. He scored only 4 points. His team was crushed by 22 points 92-70. Jasen has averaged so far 4.8ppg and 2.2rpg. He has Argentinian and Italian nationalities.

Instituto - Quimsa 97-93 Instituto held off Quimsa to open 2-0 advantage. Instituto made 29-of-34 free shots (85.3 percent) during the game. The former international swingman Luciano Gonzalez (190-90) notched 25 points to lead the effort and American forward Dwayne Davis (196-89, college: S.Mississippi) supported him with 17 points.
