26-year old Marcos Mata (201-SF-86) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for second-ranked Penarol and receives a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8 (Second Stage).
He had the game-high 20 points adding five rebounds and four assists for Penarol in his team's victory, helping them to crush La Union (#16, 4-17) with 24-point margin 103-79. Penarol is placed at 2nd position in Argentinian league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier in Second Stage. Penarol will need more victories to improve their 14-5 record. Mata has many years of experience at Penarol, through which he has constantly improved. Marcos Mata averages this season 13.2ppg and 7.1rpg.

Second best performed player last round was James Williams (204-C-79, agency: Dream Team Management) of Quimsa. He is American center in his first season at Quimsa. In the last game Williams recorded impressive double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. Of course he lead Quimsa to another comfortable win 85-71 over slightly higher-ranked Olimpico LB (#5, 13-9) being unquestionably team leader. Quimsa's 6th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 12-9 record is not bad and everything may still change. Williams is a newcomer at Quimsa and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

Third place about best performers goes to forward Juan Gutierrez (205-F/C-83) of Obras (#14). Gutierrez showcased his all-around game by recording 20 points, thirteen rebounds (!!!) and four assists in the last round. Despite Gutierrez's great performance Obras lost 78-79 to slightly lower-ranked 9 de Julio (#15, 6-15). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Obras not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 13 games, recording just six victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Gutierrez could try to bring Obras' a little bit higher in the standings. Gutierrez has individually a great season in Argentina. After 18 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.1ppg (2nd best) and rebounds with 9.6rpg (3rd best). He also has 1.1bpg, FGP: 53.8% and 3PT: 43.5%. Juan Gutierrez has also Argentinian passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Juan Manuel Torres (210-C-84) of Wuber-Est.Bahia - 20 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Robert Battle (204-C-81) of Lanus - 17 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Darren Phillip (201-F-78) of Union Progr. - 18 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Federico Kammerichs (202-F-80) of Regatas C. - 15 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Ricardo Sanchez (212-C-87) of Libertad S. - 15 points and 15 rebounds
9. Daniel Santiago (216-C-76) of Boca Jrs - 15 points and 9 rebounds
10. Kahiem Seawright (203-C/F-86) of GECR Indalo - 15 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
