Experienced British-American Darren Phillip (201-F-78) had a very impressive game in the last round for Union Progr. and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 10 (Second Stage). The 34-year old forward had a double-double of 31 points and twenty one rebounds, while his team edged out GECR Indalo (#12, 9-14) 82-79. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on the top of the standings. Union Progr. maintains the 13th position in Argentinian LigaA. Union Progr. is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. But it was their 14th lost game this season out of 22 games. Phillip turned to be Union Progr.'s top player in his first season with the team. Fairfield University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Phillip is league's best scorer averaging so far 20.1ppg and leads league in rebounds with 12.3rpg. Phillip is in league's top in and averages solid 51.0% FGP.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 28-year old Italian center Juan Manuel Torres (210-C-84) of Wuber-Est.Bahia. Torres impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds. Bad luck as Wuber-Est.Bahia was edged by the higher-ranked Atenas (#7, 12-10) 93-89. Wuber-Est.Bahia managed to keep the same 11th spot in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 9-12 record. Torres is a newcomer at Wuber-Est.Bahia and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.
The third best performed player last round was American David Jackson (196-G-82) of GECR Indalo (#12). Jackson scored 29 points and grabbed six rebounds. Despite Jackson's great performance GECR Indalo lost 79-82 to slightly lower-ranked Union Progr. (#13, 8-14). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of GECR Indalo not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 14 games, recording just nine victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Jackson could try to bring GECR Indalo's a little bit higher in the standings. Jackson has individually a great season in Argentina. After 23 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.3ppg (6th best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Diego Gerbaudo (180-PG-89) of 9 de Julio - 24 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists 5. Juan Gutierrez (205-F/C-83) of Obras - 23 points and 9 rebounds 6. Diego Garcia (190-G-79) of Libertad S. - 26 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists 7. Ryan Humphrey (203-C/F-79) of Obras - 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists 8. Kavon Lytch (199-F-87) of Argentino - 22 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists 9. Javier Bulfoni (192-G-76) of Atenas - 28 points and 2 assists 10. Enzo Ruiz (193-F-88) of 9 de Julio - 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
