The game between second ranked Lanus (19-9) and eighth ranked Argentino (16-13) was the most important one in the last round on Wednesday night. Lanus was defeated by Argentino in Buenos Aires 88-76. Lanus was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 32-17 charge of Argentino, which allowed them to win the game. They made 30-of-35 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game, while Lanus only scored seven points from the stripe. 28 personal fouls committed by Lanus helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Gaston Luchino (183-82) stepped up and scored 32 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and power forward Cristian Amicucci (202-85) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. Naturalized Italian swingman Adrian Boccia (195-82) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. Argentino moved-up to sixth place. Lanus at the other side keeps the second position with nine games lost. Argentino are looking forward to face GECR Indalo (#10) in Comodoro R. in the next round. Lanus will play at home against 9 de Julio (#14) in Rio Tercero and is hoping to win this game.

It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Penarol. International forward Pablo Espinoza (200-87) nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and Tyler Field accounted for 17 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). International point guard Facundo Campazzo (179-91) came up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 assists for Penarol in the defeat. Obras maintains fifteenth place with 8-19 record. Defending champion Penarol keeps the third position with nine games lost. Obras will play against higher ranked Wuber-Est.Bahia (#12) in Bahia Blanca in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Penarol will play at home against Boca Juniors (#7) in Buenos Aires and hopes to get back on the winning track.
LigaA top team - Regatas Corrientes (21-7) added another victory to their record on Wednesday. This time they beat seventh ranked Quimsa (15-13) in Santiado Estero 85-77. The best player for the winners was Jerome Meyinsse who scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Damian Tintorelli produced 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the hosts. Regatas Corrientes have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 21-7 record. Loser Quimsa dropped to the eighth position with 13 games lost. Regatas Corrientes will meet Libertad Sunchales (#5) on the road in the next round. Quimsa will play against Sionista in Parana and hope to secure a win.
Fourteenth-ranked 9 de Julio (9-19) gave a tough game to eleventh ranked GECR Indalo (13-15) in Comodoro R.. GECR Indalo managed to secure only two-point victory 88-86. However their fans expected easier game. Diego Romero orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 8 rebounds. GECR Indalo have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to tenth place. 9 de Julio at the other side keeps the fourteenth position with 19 games lost. GECR Indalo's next round opponent will be higher ranked Argentino (#6) in Junin and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. 9 de Julio will play on the road against the league's second-placed Lanus (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
An interesting game took place in Bahia Blanca where higher ranked Boca Juniors (15-12) was upset on the court of twelfth ranked Wuber-Est.Bahia (11-15) 75-61 on Wednesday. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Boca Juniors. Juan Manuel Torres stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Wuber-Est.Bahia maintains twelfth place with 11-15 record. Loser Boca Juniors dropped to the seventh position with 12 games lost. Wuber-Est.Bahia will face Obras (#15) in Buenos Aires in the next round.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 17: Atenas destroyed Union Progr. on the opponent's court 97-71. Bottom-ranked La Union unfortunately lost to Olimpico LB in a home game 81-95. Sionista was rolled over Libertad S. on the road 68-91.


Union Progr. - Atenas 71-97

Very expected game in Villa Angela where 13th ranked Union Progresista (9-18) was crushed by ninth ranked Atenas (15-14) 97-71 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 97-71. Atenas shot 62.7 percent from the field. Power forward Mariano Fierro (201-86) stepped up and scored 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and the former international center Diego Guaita (202-83) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. Four Atenas players scored in double figures. Atenas' coach Alejandro Lotterio felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. point guard Victor Hugo Cajal (179-80, agency: Dream Team Management) responded with 7 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and naturalized Italian center Omar Canton (210-82) scored 12 points. Atenas maintains ninth place with 15-14 record. Union Progresista lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth position with 18 games lost. Atenas will face bottom-ranked La Union (#16) in Formosa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Union Progresista will play at home against Olimpico de La Banda.

Strangely La Union outrebounded Olimpico de La Banda 36-23 including 27 on the defensive glass. La Union was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Fernando Malara (194-80, agency: Interperformances) stepped up and scored 24 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and guard Hernando Salles (183-79) chipped in 20 points and 5 assists (perfect from the field making all six shots).
