Mexican U18 National Team needed overtime to topple Bahamas in the final game of the FIBA Americas Championship for both teams. Mexico managed to overcome an early 6-point deficit to force the extra period and pulled away with a narrow victory at the end. Mexican juniors thus clinched the 7th overall spot at the tournament leaving Bahamas winless at the 8th. Bahamas opened a 16:10 lead after the opening stanza and maintained it throughout the major part of the game. However Mexico bounced back in the final quarter. They denied the deficit and surged in front 60:54 with under 3 minutes left in regulation. Bahamas held on as Leon Cooper (188-G-91) notched a jumper sending the game into overtime. In the extra period Mexico turned out a bit luckier as they eke out a narrow victory. Carlos Toussaint (191-G-91) led all scorers with 23 points. Jorge Casillas (196-F-90) provided 22 points and 14 boards for the winners. Donathen Moss (201-C-90) answered with 15 points and 16 boards for Bahamas. Shavaro Bowleg (198-F-90) tallied 14 points, while Leon Cooper finished with 13 in a loss. Bahamas outrebounded their opponents 56:41 but committed 18 turnovers down the stretch. They also shot only 12% from downtown allowing Mexico to prevail at the end.

Uruguayan U18 National Team will play for the 5th spot at the FIBA Americas Championship. Yesterday they held off Bahamas for the second straight win at the tournament. Bahamas will look for their first win at the event when they face Mexico in the game for the 7th spot. The game was not an easy walk for Uruguay. Bahamas put on a fierce fight in search for their first win. The teams were tied several times throughout the opening frame and Uruguay held a slender 19:18 lead after ten minutes of action. Bahamas kept on forcing the issue and surged ahead 37:33 at halftime. Mathias Calfani (199-C-92) scored 6 points in an 11:2 run from Uruguay in the third period as they regained the lead. Uruguay dominated the third quarter and enjoyed a 58:50 advantage heading into the fourth term. Uruguay stretched the gap to 14 points early in the fourth period but Bahamas clawed their way back into single digits. Uruguay eventually withstood all the effort of the Caribbean team to succeed and posted a tough win at the end. Bruno Fitipaldo (193-G-91) led all scorers with 22 points. Mathias Calfani nailed 20 points and pulled down 8 boards, while Nicolas Catala (196-F-91) had 17 points and 10 boards for the winners. Olen Smith (-90) answered with 18 points for Bahamas. Leon Cooper (188-G-91) delivered 11 points in a losing effort. Uruguay outrebounded their opponents 48:36 and converted 44% from the field.
