Millonarios finish 2008 edition of Liga Sudamericana winless

Bolivian powerhouse just finished their Liga Sudamericana campaign in Montevideo. They were drawn into Group B of the preliminary round together with Uruguayan Trouville, Flamengo from Brazil and the reigning Liga Sudamericana champs Libertad Sunchales from Argentina. Two top teams from the group were to get the quarterfinal tickets. Unfortunately Millonarios failed to get in the mix. The Bolivian outfit started the tournament with a stunning defeat to Brazilian Flamengo 43:121. Flamengo were better in each component of the game and deservedly celebrated an easy victory at the end. Marcelinho Machado (200-F/G-75, agency: Interperformances) led the victors with 22 points. Horacio Martinez (190-G-70) answered with 16 points and 8 boards for Millonarios. Bruno Abratanski added 13 points and 7 boards in a losing case.
Millonarios continued the action against the hosting Trouville and were tamed 76:96. The visitors managed to keep the hosts in visibility in the first half and trailed 34:43 at the interval. But Uruguayan team raised the tempo and ran away for good in the third period. Martin Aguilera (195-F-87) launched 19 points and 10 boards for Trouville. Bruno Abratanski and Alejandro Espana had chipped in 16 points apiece for Millonarios. Horacio Martinez (190-G-70) added 14 points in defeat.
Bolivian team failed to deliver a single win as they were edged by Argentinean Libertad 54:130 in Round 3. Libertad was obviously a stronger team and accumulated an unassailable 64:29 halftime lead. The scoring show continued after the break as Marcos Saglietti (189-G-86) and Martin Muller (191-G-85) registered 29 points apiece in a win. Bruno Abratanski responded with 15 points in a losing case.

Brazil thrashes Bolivia in Cadet championship

Brazil - Bolivia 106:35 Brazilain Cadet team continued their winning pace at the South American championship in Argentina. They crushed Bolivia in the second round of action in Group A. This became the second win in a row for Brazilian players and they remained on top of the ladder with 2-0 record. Brazil quickly established a safe lead as they cleared off to a 47:14 distance at halftime.

Brazilain Cadet team continued their winning pace at the South American championship in Argentina. They crushed Bolivia in the second round of action in Group A. This became the second win in a row for Brazilian players and they remained on top of the ladder with 2-0 record. Brazil quickly established a safe lead as they cleared off to a 47:14 distance at halftime. Bolivia struggled to perform any sort of comeback late in the game and Brazil easily secured winning outcome at the end of the game. Rafael Maia paced the winners with 21 points. Jeferson added 18 points for Brazil. Molina responded with 12 points for Bolivia.
Chile overcame Colombia 76:68 in another clash in Group A.

DIMABBOL League 2006 Awards

At the end of the DIMABBOL League 2006, the Bolivian Basketball Federation (FBB) decided that Champion team Nonis Santa Cruz will represent the country in the South American League, while the DIMABBOL ruuner-up Amistad de Chuquisaca-Sucre will represent Bolivia in the 2007 South American Championship for Clubs. The Best Scorer of the 2006 edition of DIMABBOL League was Paragauayan Victor Brizuela (195-F-76), who played in Nonis Santa Cruz. His teammate Victor Hugo Anez (199-F-83) was named the tournemnt MVP, while young player Julio Arispe, of Amistad de Sucre, was awarded as the Revelation of the Year.

Latinbasket.com is very sorry to post only now the final result of DIMABBOL League 2006, played in past October. We finally knew that Nonis Santa Cruz won even this edition of the league, defeating 3-0 Amistad de Chuquisaca-Sucre in the Final Play Off Series.

At the end of the first phase of the tournment, the teams qualified to the second leg from Group A were Amistad de Chuquisaca, Nonis de Santa Cruz and Ingenieros de Oruro. The teams coming from Group B were Economia de Oruro, La Salle de Cochabamba and Univalle de La Paz. But yesterday the President of Bolivian Basketball Federation (FBB), Juan Revollo, announced that his federation decided to suspend and to fine the clubs Univalle de La Paz, La Salle de Santa Cruz and La Salle de Cochabamba, due to various reasons. It seems that Univalle had also asked to the FBB to postpone the Final Round Robin of DIMABBOL, but Revollo' s answer was very clear: no way. Considering that two of the teams suspended are among the qualified for the Finals, the tournemnt will be played by only four teams, Amistad, Nonis, Ingenieros and Economia, and it should start tonight

First Division has started

On October 10, started the top league in the country, named Division Mayor de Baloncesto Boliviano. Twelve teams are competing, six in the "A" Qualifying Group, played in Sanat Cruz, six others in the "B" Qualifying Group, played in Oruro. The teams of Group "A" are headed by Nonis, the reigning champion. The other ones are Club Andino, Profil, UMSA, Ingenieros de Oruro and Amistad de Chuquisaca-Sucre. Among the teams in Group "B" there are Univalle de La Paz, La Salle de Santa Cruz, Andino de Cochabamba, La Salle UPB Tarija-Cochabamba, Economia de Oruro, and Univalle de La Paz. The best three teams of each group will advance to the Final Round Robin, scheduled for the next weekend.

A quick win for Nonis

Defeating Meta La Salle in the two first games of the DIMABBOL Final Series, played in two consecutive nights, Nonis Santa Cruz became the 2005 Bolivian Champion team. Game 1 ended 97-59 and Game 2 ended 108-74. Nonis player Victor Daniel Fernandez has been named the domestic MVP of the tournment.

Nonis Santa Cruz defeated Real Santa Cruz 101-75 for the definitive 2-0 in the aggregate result of Semifinal Series, advancing to the DIMABBOL Finals 2005. The other semifinal is on 1-1 after that Unpayu won Game 1 84-80 and Meta La Salle took the revenge 84-60 in Game 2.
