Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Bahamians who are currently playing abroad.


Buddy Hield

   #1. This week's number one is former international guard Buddy Hield (193-93, college: Oklahoma, currently plays in NBA). Hield led New Orleans Pelicans to an easy victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves (21-34) 122-106 in the NBA last Friday. He scored 17 points and grabbed 4 rebounds; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Hield's third season in pro basketball. The New Orleans Pelicans have 21-34 record this season. Hield has relatively good stats this year: 8.7ppg, 2.9rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 42.0%, 3FGP: 36.8%. He played for the Bahamas senior national team three years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international forward Travis Munnings (198-94, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA. He could not help the La-Monroe (0-5) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Munnings' very good performance the La-Monroe was edged 66-63 on the road by the University of South Alabama. He recorded 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. This season Munnings has relatively solid stats: 12.3ppg, 8.3rpg, 2.2apg, 2FGP: 48.7%, 3FGP: 32.3% and FT: 63.6%. He is in the roster of the Bahamas senior national team.

   #3. The Bahamas player who performed third best last week abroad was an international swingman J.R. Cadot (196-87, agency: Dynamics Global Management, college: TCU, currently plays in Spain). Cadot was the major contributor in Zornotza's victory against the closely-ranked Agustinos-Leclerc (9-11) 90-85 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) in Saturday night's game. He scored 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 29 minutes. Ametx Zornotza (10-10) is placed tenth in the LEB Silver. It's Cadot's first season with the team. This year Cadot averages: 9.6ppg, 4.8rpg, 1.6apg, 2FGP: 54.5%, 3FGP: 28.6% and FT: 39.3% in eight games he played so far. He is also a member of the Bahamas senior national team.

   #4. Guard Michael Carey Jr. (196-93, currently studies in the States) led Wagner to a 2-point victory against the St.Francis University (PA) (4-2) 76-74 in the NCAA last Thursday. Carey Jr. recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds. The Wagner College has 3-3 conference record this season. There are only four games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Carey Jr. has reliable stats this season: 12.5ppg, 8.9rpg and 1.7apg. He is also Bahamas national team player.

   #5. Former U17 international point guard Lourawls Nairn (179-94, is currently at the American university) contributed to a Michigan St.'s victory against the University of Iowa (1-1) 77-66 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game. He recorded 6 points. The Michigan State University has a solid 4-2 conference record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Nairn's overall stats this season are: 3.9ppg, 2.5rpg and 3.7apg. He has a dual citizenship: Bahamas and American. Nairn used to play for the Bahamas U17 national team six years ago.

   #6. An experienced forward Bennet Davis (206-84, agency: Inception Sports, college: Northeastern, currently plays in France) helped SAP Vaucluse win their game against the closely-ranked UB Chartres (10-13) 90-72 in the French NM1 (third division) last Saturday. Davis scored 10 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 22 minutes. Sorgues-Avignon-Le Pontet Vaucluse (10-13) is placed 15th in the NM1. Davis' stats this year are: 10.9ppg, 4.3rpg and 2.3apg in seven games. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He is a former international player as he played for the Bahamas senior team three years ago.

   #7. Former U16 international guard Shamar Burrows (190-97, currently plays in Canada) was not able to help the Laurier University in their game against the Lancers (15-3) in the Canadian university league CIS. Burrows scored 8 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. The Laurier University (#2) was edged 89-86 in Windsor, ON by the Lancers. It was Laurier University's third consecutive loss in a row. His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. Burrows' overall stats this season are: 5.9ppg, 5.3rpg, 1.2apg and 1.5spg. He used to play for the Bahamas U16 national team four years ago.

Power forward Christopher Turnquest (203-83, college: Miles CC, currently plays in Spain) helped Arenys edge the ninth-ranked Castellbisbal (7-9) 75-74 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) on Saturday night. He recorded 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in only 11 minutes. Arenys Basquet Joventut (9-7) is placed sixth in Group C-A. Turnquest averaged so far 10.4ppg and 6.1rpg in 15 games. He used to play for the Bahamas national team back in 2006.

   #9. Former U17 international guard Mikhail Rolle (190-94, currently plays in NAIA) led Saint Thomas University to a victory against the Thomas University (0-3) 85-77 in the TSC last Saturday. He scored 12 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 21 minutes. The Saint Thomas University has record this season. This year Rolle's overall stats are: 2.6ppg and 1.7rpg in 11 games. He used to play for the Bahamas U17 national team six years ago.

Jaraun Burrows

   #10. Forward Jaraun Burrows (203-85, college: IPFW, currently plays in Israel) was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams Hap.Haifa (7-11) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Hap.Haifa was badly defeated 85-66 in Afula by the higher-ranked (#10) Hapoel. Burrows was the top scorer with 20 points. He also added 8 rebounds (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line) in 32 minutes. It was Hap.Haifa's sixth consecutive loss in a row. Burrows has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 23.4ppg, 10.4rpg, 1.6apg and 1.9spg in 18 games. Burrows is an international player who is currently on the senior Bahamas National Team roster.


The list of other players, who all have Bahamas passport but never been selected to any of Bahamas national teams:

   #1. Klay Thompson (201-G-90, college: Washington St., currently plays in NBA) led Golden State Warriors to a victory over the Memphis Grizzlies (33-23) 122-107 in the NBA in Friday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Thompson scored 36 points (!!!) and added 3 assists in 38 minutes. The Golden State Warriors have a very good 46-8 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Thompson's sixth year with the team. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Thompson averages: 21.8ppg, 3.8rpg and 2.0apg in 53 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Bahamas and American.

   #2. Jonathan Fairell (201-F-93, agency: Duran International, college: Murray St., currently plays in France) was the main contributor in a SPO Rouen's victory against one of league's weakest teams SO Maritime Boulogne (6-12) 82-78 in the French ProB (second division) on Friday night. Fairell was MVP of the game. He scored 20 points, had 8 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 28 minutes; not bad, considering it's only Fairell's second season in pro basketball. SPO Rouen Basket (7-11) is placed 16th in the ProB. It's Fairell's first year with the team. This season he has relatively solid stats: 14.1ppg, 7.4rpg, 1.3apg and 1.1spg in 18 games. Fairell is another player who holds two passports: Bahamas and American.

   #3. Zane Knowles (208-C-92, college: Texas A&M-CC, currently plays in Poland) could not help Stabill (3-17) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his very good performance the bottom-ranked Stabill was defeated 73-65 on the road by the much higher-ranked Stal Ostrow Wlkp. (#4). Knowles recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 14 rebounds. He also added 3 assists and 2 blocks. It's Knowles' first season with the team. This year Knowles has relatively solid stats: 12.9ppg, 10.9rpg and 1.7bpg.

   #4. Shaquille Cleare (203-C-93, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to Texas' surprising victory against the Iowa State University (3-3) 67-65 in the NCAA last Tuesday. He scored 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 24 minutes. The The University of Texas have 1-4 conference record this season. This year Cleare averages: 8.5ppg and 4.8rpg in 25 games.

   #5. Trevon Grant (185-G, currently plays in Canada) was not able to help the Acadia University (8-8) in their last game. Despite Grant's good performance the Acadia University (#5) was edged 93-90 in Halifax, NS by the Huskies. He had a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 10 rebounds in 32 minutes. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Grant's stats this year are: 12.0ppg, 6.9rpg, 2.1apg and 1.5spg in 12 games.

   #6. Brad Nairn (198-F, currently plays in NCAA2) was not able to secure a victory for the Henderson State University in their game against the Southern Arkansas in the NCAA2. Nairn scored 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 23 minutes. His team lost 64-74 in the NCAA2. This year Nairn's overall stats are: 5.2ppg and 4.3rpg in 18 games.

   #7. Dynile Forbes (190-G-87, college: La-Monroe, currently plays in Spain) contributed to Gandia's shocking victory against the seventh-ranked Alcazar 76-64 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) last Saturday. He scored 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds (was perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line). Forbes averaged so far 14.5ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.3apg.

   #8. Prince Cooper (193-G-93, currently studies in the States) couldn't help the La-Monroe in their game against the University of South Alabama in the NCAA. Cooper recorded only 4 points. His team was edged 66-63. Cooper's overall stats this season are: 2.6ppg and 1.7rpg.

   #9. Willis Mackey (201-F/C, currently plays in NAIA) managed to help University of Northwestern Ohio to win against the Indiana Tech 85-73 in the WHAC on Saturday night. Mackey scored only one point. Mackey's total stats this season are: 2.6ppg and 1.7rpg.

   #10. McDonald Jean-Louis (190-F, currently plays in NAIA) couldn't help the Webber International University in their last game. Despite his good performance his team was crushed 91-67 in Lake Wales by the Warner University. Jean-Louis recorded 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 20 minutes. This year Jean-Louis' total stats are: and 2.5rpg in two games.

Etoile Charleville-Mezieres (ProB) inked 25-year old Bahamas center Zane Knowles (208-116kg-92, college: Texas A&M-CC). He played most recently at King in Polish PLK league. In 9 games he averaged 4.6ppg and 4.7rpg last season. Knowles also played that season for Siarka (also in PLK) where in 14 games he had 12.5ppg, 10.9rpg and 1.6bpg.
