Orange 3 Pinelands survived a late run by Station Hill Cavaliers on Sunday. This as they won the first game of the Co-Operators General Insurance Company Ltd. Barbados Amateur Basketball Association's Best of Five Finals. Playing at the Barbados Community College, Pinelands looked as though they were cruising until a run by the Cavaliers saw them bring a double digit deficit to not only level to the scores but also take the lead briefly. However down the stretch Pinelands came out big winning a nail-biting finish 79-76 and taking the first win in the series. Pinelands trailed once before in the game which was in the first quarter at 5-2, but since taking the lead early in that quarter all the way to the fourth quarter. It was here that Cavaliers made their run and Pinelands could do little to stop them or break their momentum, as the coach didn't call any time outs until Cavaliers were only two points down. Some impressive defence by the Pinelands bench is what helped them secure the victory in the end. Leading the scoring was Pinelands swingman Jeremy Gill (183-G-81) who finished with 20 points and was 50 per cent from the three point range. Pinelands forward Junior Moore (191-G/F-82) finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Ramon Simmons (193-F-86, college: Bridgeport) also had 17 points shooting four from 12 from beyond the arc. For the Cavaliers Jamai Puckerin had 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Jason Smith had 17 points, Corey Howard 11 and Joel Hunte 10.
