The Orange 3 Pinelands are the 2016 Co-operators General Insurance Barbados Amateur Basketball Association Premier Division Champions. Pinelands defeated the Station Hill Cavaliers 78-67 and closed out the series 3-1. Pinelands' Jeremy Gill (183-G-81) was named the Playoff Most Valuable Player and ended his season with a game high 20 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals despite sitting late in the third quarter and most of the fourth quarter. The officials were a bit too noticeable in the game with some questionable calls which left Gill in foul trouble along with a few other players. With Gill on the bench, many thought that the Cavaliers were still in with a chance as they had led earlier in the game. Cavaliers led at the halfway point 31-27 before Pinelands took over and led 55-49 at the end of the third. With a small lead, Gill returned to the court with four minutes left in the game and sealed it as he pushed to the bucket, picking up fouls and sinking the free throws. Pinelands also saw Ramon Simmons (193-F-86, college: Bridgeport) scoring 15 points and Ian Alexander 14, while Charles Vanderpool (203-F/C-87, college: Bridgeport) had 12. For the Cavaliers, Jamai Puckerin (F) scored 17 and Darren Hunte (G/F) had 13 with an energetic Kevin Sealy scoring 12.

It more than justified their billing as pre-season favourites after the reigning knockout kings led for all but the opening possession of a lopsided contest that they were up by as many as 29 points. The performance was simply indicative of their entire...   [read more]
