Regular Season Round 8: Cuenca - UDJ 56-68

The most shocking disappointment of round 8 was a home defeat of 4th ranked Cuenca (1-5) to fifth ranked UDJ (2-4) 68-56. UDJ forced 19 Cuenca turnovers. Strangely Cuenca outrebounded UDJ 47-35 including 35 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Fernanda Garcia (-95) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and guard Heidy Guayaquil (157-99) who added 9 points and 8 assists during the contest. Center Maria Munoz (-91) responded with 9 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Camila Illescas (166-1) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. UDJ moved-up to third place, which they share with La Perla. Cuenca lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. They share it with VO4. UDJ is looking forward to face La Perla (#3) in Guayaquil in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Cuenca will play against VO4 and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
