Regular Season Round 5: Lobas - Aztks 78-79

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Lobas (4-1) in Ciudad de Mexico on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by Aztks (5-0) 79-78. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Lobas. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Aztks forced 30 Lobas turnovers. The best player for the winners was American guard Briahanna Jackson (168-93, college: Louisville) who scored 24 points and 8 rebounds. Cuban center Yayma Boulet (193-84) chipped in 22 points and 7 rebounds. Four Aztks players scored in double figures. Jkyra Malika produced 23 points and Russian forward Julia Gladkova (185-94) added 17 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Lobas' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Aztks have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Newly promoted Aztks maintains first place with 5-0 record, which they share with Mieleras. Lobas at the other side still keep top position with one game lost. Aztks will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
