Regular Season Round 8: Cojute - Santa Tecla 86-98

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Cojutepeque. Top-ranked Santa Tecla faced 4th ranked Cojute. Guests from Santa Tecla (9-0) defeated host Cojute (4-5) 98-86. Santa Tecla players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Puerto Rican forward Owens Perez (203-92) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 20 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Brian Vasquez (190) contributed with 35 points (!!!) and 4 assists for the winners. Santa Tecla's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American swingman Andravious Smith (196-95, college: Tougaloo) replied with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Jordan Young (201-97, college: Dalton St.) added 22 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for Cojute. Santa Tecla have an impressive nine-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 9-0 record. Cojute at the other side keeps the fourth place with five games lost. Santa Tecla will play against bottom-ranked Chalchuapa (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cojute will play against Aguila (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
