Regular Season Round 9: Santa Tecla - Chalchuapa 126-79

Liga MB top team - Santa Tecla (10-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked Chalchuapa (1-8) 126-79. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 46. Santa Tecla forced 21 Chalchuapa turnovers and had a 36-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. Puerto Rican forward Owens Perez (203-92) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 18 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and Carlos Alas (181-79) chipped in 24 points. Five Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Jose Ortiz (190-90, college: DelVal) with 37 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Chad Fortenberry-Miller (201-91, college: MacMurray) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 18 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Santa Tecla have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 10-0 record. Chalchuapa at the other side stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Santa Tecla will play against league's second-placed Santa Ana at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Chalchuapa will play against Cojute (#4) to get more than just one victory in their record.
