Santa Tecla defeated Aguila in the opener. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Aguila's 34. They outrebounded Aguila 52-31 including a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Santa Tecla players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Guard Brian Vasquez (190) nailed 41 points (!!!) for the winning side and Cuban Lisvan Valdez (196-88) accounted for 24 points and 7 rebounds. Cuban Oreste Torres (204-87) came up with a double-double by scoring 45 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds and Lee Vasquez (177-91) added 13 points and 9 assists respectively for Aguila in the defeat.
