Regular Season Round 18: Barreteras - Algodoneras 77-85

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Zacatecas where one of their biggest challengers Barreteras (7-11) were defeated by fifth ranked Algodoneras (3-15) 85-77. Algodoneras forced 19 Barreteras turnovers. 26 personal fouls committed by Barreteras helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Jocelyn Gandara notched 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and American forward Tylinn Carter (185-95, college: Pepperdine) supported her with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Even 21 points and 5 rebounds by American swingman Kayla Roberts (185-96, college: Norfolk St.) did not help to save the game for Barreteras. Her fellow American import guard Ashanti Hunt (180-96, college: BCU) added 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted Algodoneras maintains fifth position with 3-15 record. Barreteras at the other side keep the fourth place with 11 games lost. Algodoneras' next round opponent will be league's leader Lobas in Ciudad de Mexico and it may be quite challenging game. Barreteras will play at home against the league's second-placed Racers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
