Fourth ranked Sampaio (9-5) saved a 3-point victory at home edging one of their biggest challengers Vera Cruz (8-6) 81-78 in the fight for the third place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Vera Cruz. Sampaio forced 26 Vera Cruz turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The winners were led by American guard Katrina Pardee (175, college: WVU) who scored that evening 24 points and 5 rebounds and the former international guard Debora Fernandes (164-91) supported her with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals. Five Sampaio players scored in double figures. Sampaio's coach Virgil Lopez allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 9 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists by the former international guard Babi Honorio (180-85) did not help to save the game for Vera Cruz. Guard Maila Ciciardi (168-93) added 20 points, 7 assists and 4 steals (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for lost side. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Vera Cruz at the other side dropped to the fourth position with six games lost.
