Regular Season Round 14: Pato - Sao Jose 65-98

Bottom-ranked Pato (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 98-65 loss to fifth ranked Sao Jose (6-3) in Pato Branco on Friday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Pato's 26. They outrebounded Pato 41-27 including 31 on the defensive glass. Sao Jose shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Pato's players. Center Joao Moda (204-1) scored 26 points to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Gabriel Oliveira (178-1) chipped in 16 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) during the contest. Vitor Oliveira (-3) responded with 15 points and 6 rebounds and Gabriel Lopes (-3) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sao Jose maintains fifth position with 6-3 record. Loser Pato still closes the standings with nine games lost. Sao Jose will meet at home higher ranked Corinthians (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Pato will play against the league's second-placed Franca (#2) in Sao Paulo and hopes to get finally their first victory.
