Rather predictable result when third ranked Cangrejeros (11-10) won against 5th ranked Gigantes (5-17) in Santurce 105-101 on Tuesday. Cangrejeros looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The former international point guard JJ Barea (183-84, college: Northeastern) notched 19 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the effort and American Thomas Robinson (208-91, college: Kansas, agency: Network Sports International) supported him with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Even 30 points by naturalized American Wil Martinez (188-92, college: Fairmont St.) did not help to save the game for Gigantes. American point guard Kalin Lucas (185-89, college: Michigan St.) added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gigantes' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Cangrejeros maintains third position with 11-10 record having six points less than leader Bayamon. Loser Gigantes keep the fifth place with 17 games lost. Cangrejeros will meet Grises (#6) in the next round. Gigantes will play against Indios in Mayaguez and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
