Regular Season Round 4: Santiagueno - San Salvador 66-113
Date: October 3, 2021
Rather expected game when 6th ranked Santiagueno (1-2) was smashed at home by top-ranked San Salvador (3-0) 113-66 on Sunday. San Salvador dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Santiagueno's 46. San Salvador forced 19 Santiagueno turnovers and outrebounded them 48-32 including a 37-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by Dominican guard Bernardo Polanco (189-94) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds and American swingman Eddie Ishman (197-86, college: Miles) supported him with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Four San Salvador players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 20 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks by American Xavier Eaglin (201-97, college: PVAMU) did not help to save the game for Santiagueno. His fellow American import guard EJ Blackwell (193, college: Lourdes) added 12 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San Salvador moved-up to second place, which they share with Aguila. Loser Santiagueno keeps the sixth position with two games lost. They share it with Brujos. San Salvador will meet at home Santa Ana (#5) in the next round. Santiagueno will have a break next round.
