Regular Season Round 4: Santa Tecla - San Miguel 84-39

Bottom-ranked San Miguel is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to second ranked Santa Tecla (4-1) 84-39 on Friday evening. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to San Miguel's 22. Santa Tecla forced 33 San Miguel turnovers and outrebounded them 51-39 including a 22-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Santa Tecla looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by San Miguel's players. The winners were led by Dominican guard Genesis Evangelista (180-93) who scored that evening 23 points, 6 assists and 6 steals and guard Kenia Mena (156-1) supported her with 7 points and 7 assists. Even 16 points and 8 rebounds by point guard Zabdi Rivera (170-2) did not help to save the game for San Miguel. Honduran Ena Lobo (-84) added 9 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Santa Tecla maintains second position with 4-1 record behind leader FAS. Loser San Miguel still closes the standings with five games lost. Santa Tecla will meet at home Santa Ana (#4) in the next round. San Miguel will play against the league's leader FAS and hopes to get finally their first victory.
