The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Panama City: Panteras (#2) and Atletico (#6). Panteras (6-2) crushed visiting Atletico (1-7) by 21 points 83-62. Panteras dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Atletico's 36. They outrebounded Atletico 59-41 including a 22-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Panteras looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Atletico's players. Ecuadorian power forward Lucia Garrido (-92) fired a double-double by scoring 26 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized American guard Ashley Reid (165-98, college: Wichita St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points, 9 rebounds and 14 assists. Four Panteras players scored in double figures. Venezuelan point guard Nathaly Malpica (161) produced 23 points and forward Tayina Ellis (-84) added 9 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Panteras maintains second place with 6-2 record behind leader Correcaminos. Atletico lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Panteras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Atletico's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Panama City to the arena Aguilas.
