Regular Season Round 5: Talca - UdeC 60-104

There was a minor upset when their close opponent Espanol de Talca (0-4) was crushed at home by leader Universidad de Concepcion (3-0) 104-60 on Saturday. Universidad de Concepcion dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Espanol de Talca's 30 and made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Espanol de Talca 47-25 including a 38-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Universidad de Concepcion looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Venezuelan Carlos Milano (198-85) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists. International point guard Diego Silva (186-93) chipped in 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Universidad de Concepcion players scored in double figures. Forward Diego Zerene (-0) produced 12 points and 7 assists and guard Danko Garcia (-2) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Espanol de Talca's coach already knew that his team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Despite that victory Universidad de Concepcion went down to sixth position due to points difference. Loser Espanol de Talca still closes the standings with four games lost. Universidad de Concepcion will meet at home league's leader Universidad Catolica in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Espanol de Talca will play against Temuco and hopes to get finally their first victory.
