No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Cerrado (3-1) edged bottom-ranked U.Corinthians (0-5) in Santa Cruz do Sul 76-75 on Monday. Rafael Moreira (200-91) nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and American point guard Kenny Dawkins (172-87, college: Lamar) accounted for 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Cerrado players scored in double figures. American MikeL Simms (196-97, college: VCU) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import guard Grantham Gillard (193-97, college: Arkansas St.) added 21 points and 5 rebounds respectively for U.Corinthians in the defeat. U.Corinthians' coach Athos Calderaro tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Cerrado moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Bauru. Loser U.Corinthians still closes the standings with five games lost. Cerrado will meet Caxias do Sul (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. U.Corinthians will play against Brasilia (#15) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
