There was a minor upset in Santa Cruz do Sul where bottom-ranked Brasilia (0-4) was defeated by seventeenth ranked U.Corinthians (1-5) 70-55 on Wednesday. U.Corinthians forced 23 Brasilia turnovers. The best player for the winners was American guard Grantham Gillard (193-97, college: Arkansas St.) who scored 16 points and 4 steals. Argentinian point guard Enzo Cafferata (186-88) chipped in 8 points and 7 rebounds. U.Corinthians' coach Athos Calderaro used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Germerson Barbosa (205-93) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and international center Ronald Reis (211-91) added 9 points and 7 rebounds respectively. U.Corinthians left bottom position moving up to fourteenth place. It was Brasilia's fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. U.Corinthians will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Brasilia will play against Caxias do Sul (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
