There was no surprise when 5th ranked Santa Ana (2-12) was crushed at home by third ranked L.M.Mons. 2 (6-6) 87-49 on Friday. L.M.Mons. 2 held Santa Ana to an opponent 22.1 percent shooting from the field compared to 46.5 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Santa Ana 61-38 including a 46-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. L.M.Mons. 2 looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Santa Ana's players. Monica Aristondo (163-92) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Colombian center Diana Lopez (179-85, college: Regis Univ.) chipped in 18 points, 19 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 blocks. The best for the losing side was American point guard Dasia McByrd (163-94, college: ONU) with 13 points and 9 rebounds and guard Angie Ayala (158-7) scored 13 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. L.M.Mons. 2 maintains third place with 6-6 record having eight points less than leader FAS. Loser Santa Ana stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. L.M.Mons. 2 will meet at home league's second-placed Santa Tecla in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Santa Ana will play against the league's second-placed Santa Tecla and hope to secure a win.
