Very expected game when 17th ranked U.Corinthians (1-7) was edged on the road by thirteenth ranked Fortaleza (3-3) 77-76 on Friday. However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. American players dominated the game. Forward Richard Granberry (203-93, college: Virginia St.) nailed 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and Desmond Holloway (194-90, college: Coastal, agency: Interperformances) accounted for 13 points and 9 rebounds. MikeL Simms (196-97, college: VCU) came up with 18 points and 6 rebounds and guard Grantham Gillard (193-97, college: Arkansas St.) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively for U.Corinthians in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. U.Corinthians' coach Athos Calderaro tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Fortaleza have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place. Loser U.Corinthians stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Fortaleza will meet Pato (#15) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. U.Corinthians will play against Sao Paulo and hope to win that game.
