There was no surprise when 10th ranked Marlins (1-5) were crushed at home by sixth ranked Sivar (5-2) 71-31 on Thursday. Sivar held Marlins to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 29.1 percent accuracy of the winners and had 20 for 32 from the free-throw line, while Marlins only scored two points from the stripe. Sivar forced 28 Marlins turnovers and outrebounded them 63-32 including a 32-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Marlins' players. It was a great evening for Allison Marroquin (167-3) who led her team to a victory scoring 12 points and 8 rebounds. Center Samantha Vasquez (162-2) helped adding 13 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side guard Eloisa Melara (159-8) responded with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Valeria Cornejo (169-7) scored 4 points and 11 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sivar moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Sunset. Loser Marlins keep the tenth position with five games lost. They share it with Quequeisque. Sivar will meet at home bottom-ranked Opico (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Marlins will play against Sunset and hope to win that game.
