Rather predictable result when second ranked Las Animas (5-3) defeated on the road 5th ranked Castro (1-4) 63-58 on Saturday. Las Animas looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Charles Funches III (203-88, college: Hampton) who scored 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. International Diego Low (190-97) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Abner de Novais produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 16 rebounds and Daniel Arcos (190-94) added 15 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Las Animas maintains second position with 5-3 record having six points less than leader Puerto Varas. Loser Castro keeps the fifth place with four games lost. Las Animas will meet Puerto Montt (#6) on the road in the next round. Castro will play against the league's leader Puerto Varas and hope to win that game.
