Regular Season Round 21: Lanus - GELP 102-99

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked GELP (9-8) in Buenos Aires on Wednesday night. Visitors were edged by third ranked Lanus (10-7) 102-99. They made 27-of-32 free shots (84.4 percent) during the game. Lanus looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for forward Martin Franchino (201-93) who led his team to a victory with 29 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Naturalized Italian Juan Kelly (189-88) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 assists for the winners. Lanus' coach Leonardo Costa used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Center Franco Barroso (207-94) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) and swingman Joaquin Acuna (196-99) added 22 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for GELP. Five Lanus and four GELP players scored in double figures. Lanus have a solid series of three victories in a row. Newly promoted Lanus maintains third place with 10-7 record having just one point less than leader Independ.O. GELP at the other side still keeps top position with eight games lost. They share it with Villa Mitre. Lanus will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. GELP will play on the road against the league's second-placed Racing in Chivilcoy and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
