Regular Season Round 12: Bigua - Penarol 78-72
Date: December 17, 2021
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Montevideo: Bigua (#2) and Penarol (#8). Despite it looked like an easy game for Bigua, those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Guest Penarol challenged much higher ranked Bigua giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by six points 78-72. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Penarol. Bigua had a 44-33 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for guard Santiago Vidal (180-89) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. Brazilian center Joao Franca (215-98) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Five Bigua players scored in double figures. American center Lee Roberts (203-87, college: Findlay, OH) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and the former international guard Salvador Zanotta (185-95) added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists in the effort for Penarol. Defending champion maintains second position with 8-1 record behind leader Goes. Penarol at the other side keeps the eighth place with four games lost. Bigua's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Aguada.
