There was a small surprise when fourteenth ranked U.Corinthians (7-13) won against 12th ranked Cerrado (7-14) in Brasilia 73-55 on Friday. U.Corinthians made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. The former international Guilherme Teichmann (204-83, college: Tulsa) notched 4 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the effort and center Vinicius Malachias (209-99) supported him with 15 points. Even 17 points and 7 rebounds by American guard Isaac Thornton (193-91, college: Fairmont St.) did not help to save the game for Cerrado. Center Sergio Conceicao (208-0) added 9 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. U.Corinthians moved-up to thirteenth place. Loser Cerrado dropped to the fourteenth position with 14 games lost. U.Corinthians will meet at home higher ranked UNIFACISA (#6) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Cerrado will play against Mogi (#16) in Mogi das Cruzes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
