Regular Season Round 30: Rio Claro - Minas 75-78

Twelfth-ranked Rio Claro (9-15) gave a tough game to second ranked Minas (22-4) on Saturday. The visitors from Belo Horizonte managed to secure only three-point victory 78-75. However their fans expected much easier game. Minas made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. The former international power forward Renan Lenz (207-1990, college: Utah) scored 21 points to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Gui Pereira (192-1991) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Minas players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard Jamaal Smith (176-1985, college: N.Mexico) with 15 points and Vinicius Pastor (199-1990) scored 13 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Minas maintains second position with 22-4 record having just one point less than leader Sesi Franca. Rio Claro lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with 15 games lost. Minas are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Brasilia (#17) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Rio Claro will play against the league's leader Vivo/Franca (#1) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
