Regular Season Round 4: Sao Jose - Basquete Santos 80-94
Date: March 12, 2022
There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Basquete Santos (3-3) beat on the road much higher ranked Sao Jose (4-2) 94-80 on Saturday. Basquete Santos shot 28 for 40 from the free-throw line, while Sao Jose only scored eight points from the stripe. They outrebounded Sao Jose 49-38 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by forward Leandro Abreu (195-2004) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Jean Oliveira (177-2001) supported him with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Four Basquete Santos players scored in double figures. Even 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists by the former international point guard Arthur Pecos (183-1994) did not help to save the game for Sao Jose. Pedro Pereira (190-2001) added 8 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Basquete Santos moved-up to third place, which they share with Osasco and Vila Nova/AEGB. Loser Sao Jose keeps the second position with two games lost. They share it with Blumenau and Tatui/AABT. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
