Thirteenth-ranked Fortaleza (9-18) used its home court advantage to challenge third ranked Flamengo (24-5) on Tuesday. The visitors from Rio de Janeiro managed to secure only three-point victory 94-91. However their fans expected much easier game. Flamengo made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Tulio Da Silva (203-1996, college: Missouri St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. American-Mexican guard Luke Martinez (190-1990, college: Wyoming, agency: Pro Sports) accounted for 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Five Flamengo players scored in double figures. Flamengo's coach Gustavo Conti used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Maozinha Pereira (200-2000) came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and point guard Pedro Lobo (192-2002) added 24 points and 5 assists respectively for Fortaleza in the defeat. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Fortaleza lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the thirteenth position with 18 games lost. Flamengo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Fortaleza will play against the league's leader Vivo/Franca (#1) in Sao Paulo and hope to secure a win.
