Regular Season Round 9: Cojute - Aguila 78-97

No shocking result in a game in Cojutepeque where eighth ranked Aguila (3-4) smashed 10th ranked Cojute (1-5) 97-78 on Tuesday. Aguila dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Cojute's 36. Aguila forced 24 Cojute turnovers and outrebounded them 47-32 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Cojute's players. The best player for the winners was Cuban Lisvan Valdez (196-1988) who scored 26 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Bryan Garcia (168-1997) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. Five Aguila players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Andravious Smith (196-1995, college: Tougaloo) who recorded 28 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import forward Durante Lee (196, college: Purdue NW) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Aguila moved-up to sixth place. Cojute lost third consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with five games lost. Aguila will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cojute will play at home against Chalchuapa (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
