The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Algodoneras as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Algodoneras defeated 7th ranked Atleticas in Torreon 72-59. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The winners were led by American guard Brittany Byrd (175, college: UIC) who scored that evening 30 points and 7 rebounds and Trinidad and Tobago forward Chervelle Cox (186-1992, college: Central St., agency: Jones Sports International) supported her with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Even 16 points and 5 rebounds by the former international guard Paola Estrada (172-1993, agency: DC Sports) did not help to save the game for Atleticas. Dominican center Yamile Rodriguez (188-1994, college: ETSU) added 6 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Lenadoras and Las Plebes. Atleticas at the other side keep the seventh place with six games lost. They share the position with Quetzales. Atleticas will play next round against Racers trying to get back on the winning streak. Algodoneras will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Lenadoras on the road.
