Indios recorded a loss in Mayaguez. Hosts were defeated by Capitanes 82-67. The former international Christopher Gaston (201-1989, college: Fordham) stepped up and scored 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and Nigerian-American power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206-1987, college: Texas A&M) chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds. Five Capitanes players scored in double figures. At the losing side American point guard Briante Weber (188-1992, college: VCU) responded with 17 points and 4 assists and naturalized American Melsahn Basabe (201-1992, college: Iowa) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Capitanes will play against Grises in Humacao in the next round. Indios will have a break next round.
