Regular Season Round 14: Santiagueno - Cojute 92-75

Date: April 10, 2022
There was no surprise when 11th ranked Cojute (1-10) was defeated on the road by eighth ranked Santiagueno (4-7) 92-75. Santiagueno outrebounded Cojute 59-28 including a 24-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Cojute's players. American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) notched a double-double by scoring 26 points and 29 rebounds to lead the effort and American Xavier Eaglin (201-1997, college: PVAMU) supported him with 21 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists. Eaglin is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Even 34 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds by American guard Jordon Myers (201-1998) did not help to save the game for Cojute. His fellow American import swingman Andravious Smith (196-1995, college: Tougaloo) added 19 points and 11 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Santiagueno maintains eighth position with 4-7 record. Cojute lost eighth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with ten games lost. They share the position with Chalchuapa. Santiagueno will play against Chalchuapa (#10) on the road in the next round. Cojute will play against Nejapa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
