Regular Season Round 14: Nejapa - Santa Tecla 99-114

Everything went according to plan when third ranked Santa Tecla (9-2) beat on the road 9th ranked Nejapa (3-8) 114-99. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Nejapa's 54. Santa Tecla forced 23 Nejapa turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. Dominican guard Jose Liriano (189-1998) notched 29 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and Ernesto Rodriguez (170-2001) supported him with 22 points and 5 assists. Santa Tecla's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 29 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists by American forward Telvin Gabriel (198-1994, college: Lander) did not help to save the game for Nejapa. Eder Paiz (179-2000) added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists for the hosts. Five Santa Tecla and four Nejapa players scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains third position with 9-2 record behind leader Metapan. Nejapa lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with eight games lost. Santa Tecla will play against Fantasmas (#7) in San Vicente in the next round. Nejapa will play on the road against Cojute in Cojutepeque and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
