Regular Season Round 39: Riachuelo LR - Atenas 87-97

There was a surprise result in La Rioja where sixteenth ranked Atenas (15-22) defeated higher ranked Riachuelo LR (15-22) 97-87 on Thursday. Atenas dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Riachuelo LR's 24 and made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for Georgian-Puerto Rican guard Guillermo Diaz (188-1985, college: Miami, FL) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points. American Fabian Jaimes (198-1992) helped adding 18 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). The best for the losing side was the former international forward Selem Safar (191-1987) with 27 points and forward Rodrigo Sanchez (200-1989) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Atenas moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Riachuelo LR. Riachuelo LR lost their third game in a row. Atenas' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Cordoba Instituto.
