No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (6-7) crushed at home bottom-ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (2-10) 95-73 on Friday. Tijuana Zonkeys dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Caballeros de Culiacan's 34 and made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Caballeros de Culiacan 47-33 including a 37-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Ivan Venegas (203-1997, college: UTEP) notched a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and American point guard Jamie Johnson (177-1995, college: IU Southeast) supported him with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 7 steals. Five Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. Even 33 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds by American Sam Daniel (203-1996, college: Florida Tech) did not help to save the game for Caballeros de Culiacan. His fellow American import power forward Tony Criswell (205-1991, college: Missouri) added 16 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tijuana Zonkeys maintains sixth position with 6-7 record. Caballeros de Culiacan lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with ten games lost. Tijuana Zonkeys will meet at home higher ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against Rayos de Hermosillo (#4) and hope to secure a win.
