The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Rayos de Hermosillo's (7-5) road loss to fourth ranked Venados (6-6) in Mazatlan 95-102 on Friday. Venados made 27-of-32 free shots (84.4 percent) during the game. American players dominated the game. Center Alex Hicks (203-1996, college: Troy) notched 24 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and point guard Davin White (185-1981, college: CSUN) supported him with 21 points and 7 assists. Five Venados players scored in double figures. Even 33 points (!!!) (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) by guard Jordan Brangers (188-1995, college: South Plains) did not help to save the game for Rayos de Hermosillo. Guard Jimond Ivey (196-1996, college: Akron) added 12 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Despite that victory Venados went down to fifth position due to points difference. Defending champion Rayos de Hermosillo dropped to the third place with five games lost. They share the position with Obregon. Venados will meet at home Ostioneros de Guaymas (#7) in the next round. Rayos de Hermosillo will play against Caballeros de Culiacan (#8) and hope to secure a win.
