Everything went according to plan when third ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (9-5) edged at home bottom-ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (2-12) 80-77 on Wednesday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Rayos de Hermosillo made 28-of-33 free shots (84.8 percent) during the game, while Caballeros de Culiacan only scored eight points from the stripe. They outrebounded Caballeros de Culiacan 46-30 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Turkish center Alihan Demir (206-1996, college: Minnesota) fired a double-double by scoring 27 points and 19 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!) for the winners. American guard Jimond Ivey (196-1996, college: Akron) chipped in 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Rayos de Hermosillo's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American Sam Daniel (203-1996, college: Florida Tech) produced 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import guard Hameed Ali (188-1993, college: TAMUCC) added 15 points, 6 assists and 7 steals respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Rayos de Hermosillo have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Los Mochis. Caballeros de Culiacan lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Rayos de Hermosillo will meet Pioneros Los Mochis (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day.
