Regular Season Round 7: Guayama - Mayaguez 89-91

A very close game took place in Guayama between Indios and Brujos. Sixth ranked Indios (2-7) got a very close victory on the road over 5th ranked Brujos (2-4). Indios managed to escape with a 2-point win 91-89 on Friday evening. Indios dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Brujos' 42. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American point guard Dwight Buycks (191-1989, college: Marquette) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points and 6 assists. Naturalized American Melsahn Basabe (201-1992, college: Iowa) helped adding 17 points and 13 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Indios' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American guard Terrico White (196-1990, college: Ole Miss) responded with 36 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and the other American import power forward Ben McCauley (206-1986, college: NC State) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Indios maintains sixth place with 2-7 record. Loser Brujos keep the fifth position with four games lost. Indios will meet at home higher ranked Mets (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Brujos will play against the league's leader Piratas in Quebradillas and hope to secure a win.
