The game between closely ranked teams ended with one of their biggest challengers Cangrejeros' (4-6) home loss to third ranked Capitanes (5-4) in Santurce 84-93 on Monday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Capitanes made 8 blocks. The winners were led by Nigerian-American power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206-1987, college: Texas A&M) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 6 blocks and naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Walter Hodge (183-1986, college: Florida) supported him with 20 points and 4 assists. Four Capitanes players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds by Haitian forward Skal Labissiere (211-1996, college: Kentucky) did not help to save the game for Cangrejeros. Mali power forward Cheick Diallo (206-1996, college: Kansas) added 17 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains third position with 5-4 record having just two point less than leader Quebradillas. Cangrejeros at the other side keep the fourth place with six games lost. Capitanes will meet Mets (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Cangrejeros will play against the league's leader Piratas in Quebradillas and hope to secure a win.
