We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Mazatlan where 7th ranked Venados (7-13) were defeated by bottom-ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (4-16) 72-63 on Friday. Americans were the main players on the court also this time. Power forward Tony Criswell (205-1991, college: Missouri) fired 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Guard Hameed Ali (188-1993, college: TAMUCC) chipped in 11 points and 5 assists. Criswell is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures. Jermont Horton (198-1984, college: RU Newark) produced 16 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Marlon Stewart (190-1997, college: N.Dakota) added 18 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) respectively for lost side. Caballeros de Culiacan maintains eighth position with 4-16 record. Venados lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 13 games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will meet at home higher ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Venados will play against the league's leader Astros (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
